2024 Legislative Session

BILLS THAT PASSED
  • HB 1335 – This was our big priority Bill and comes after a couple of years of advocacy to address staffing requirements. Staffing ratios will remain the same, but communities that deploy a medical alert system using wearable devices will have flexibility in staffing assignments within the building. This Bill also allows the CMA to float between the community's memory and non-memory care areas.

  • HB 1123 – Creates a statewide Adult Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation Multidisciplinary Team Coordinator Program and Elder Justice Coalition to supervise and support local investigators on issues of elder abuse. Supported by Co-Age and the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council of Georgia, this Bill initially did not include senior living providers on the Coalition, but we were able to get the Bill amended in committee to include the Georgia Senior Living Association.

  • SB 449 – Allows veterans with certain military medical training to provisionally work as a CNA or EMT for up to 12 months after leaving military service without having to complete exam requirements. This could help people work faster as CNAs while they complete their certification requirements.

  • HB 880 – Another licensing Bill, this lets military spouses who are stationed in Georgia to practice their profession as long as they hold an active license in another state and submit certain information to the PLB. It may only be limited to “licensed” administrators from other states and not include “certified” LTC administrators. Gathering more information on how this could include CNAs.

  • HB 982 – Creates a High Demand Career List under the State Workforce Development Board and directs state and local agencies to use state and federal funds to train and fill those jobs. We will work to ensure that direct care workers are included in that list.

  • HB 663 – No Patient Left Alone Act. This Bill responds to COVID-era restrictions on visitation in hospitals and long term care settings. It specifies visitation rights for family members and designated essential caregivers but still allows communities to establish and enforce reasonable rules of conduct and safety protocols. It also contains exceptions for declared emergencies and compliance with CDC guidance.
